AIRAANZ Symposia

AIRAANZ provides funding to support members in the running of symposia, workshops, webinars and events that promote the field of IR, IR scholarship and the role of AIRAANZ, in both Australia and New Zealand

Timing and frequency: AIRAANZ aims to fund 1-3 symposia per year, depending on level of funding, though the symposia can be held in 2027.

Total Funding available for all symposia: $20,000 with a maximum allocation to any one symposium of $8 0000.

Process: Applications are reviewed by a sub-committee of the AIRAANZ Executive (consisting of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer who are given authority to determine funding outcomes) according to the criteria outlined below. Where an issue arises and potential symposium organisers would benefit from a timely decision, a quorum of the Executive will meet to review the proposal within a week of submission.

Proposals will be judged on the following:

  • Promotion of the field of IR and contribution to furthering IR scholarship,
  • Promotion of AIRAANZ as a scholarly society, and the potential generation of AIRAANZ memberships
  • Significance for higher degree students and early career researchers,
  • Inclusiveness and collaboration,
  • Proposals which involve (at least) matching funding from the relevant, institution(s) will be given priority,
  • Potential for publications, including in Labour and Industry.

It is expected that at least 50% of applicants will be financial members of AIRAANZ. AIRAANZ strongly encourages applicants to be financial members of the Association and proposals with higher AIRAANZ membership will be given priority.
